Traced back to the Peranakans, who originated from early Chinese settlements in the 18th century, our Modern Peranakan food reflects a profound understanding of complex regional flavours and a respect for fresh, authentic ingredients.
The Peranakan ethos is deeply interwoven with the culture and cuisine of the Singaporeans and Malaysians. Our signature ingredients include coconut milk, tamarind, and turmeric which form the base for cooking in our country.
Some of the more unique ingredients from the South East include pandan leaves, buah keluak (black nut), and jasmine rice.
